Nomad
Somewhere the flutter of a nova
sends a mourning for things
that blaze and die quickly
young heroes riding their vigor
like some bareback mustang
into the sputter of the sun
I have straddled a wild hope
then set my lips against the wind
felt cracking ice beneath my feet
lost sun and stars beneath the mountain
gave flesh to granite
and innocence to the path
Arriving at last to pray
at the rugged shrine of solitude
