Fusion of the Five Elemental Forces with Faces of Your Soul Maskmaking/Fusion Retreat Open to Public
January 24 - 28, 2012
Instructors: Gilles Marin, Kaleo & Elise Ching
The Fusion of the Five Elemental Forces of Nature is one of the highest forms of Taoist meditation. It was taught to Master Mantak Chia, one of Gilles Marin's principal teachers, by one of the last White Cloud Taoist monks from China. Adapted to our Western mind, it represents the quintessence of healing in Gilles' teaching. Be prepared for deep introspection, emotional exploration, and spiritual stimulation.
Maskmaking is an embrace, a connection to inner alchemy and healing. Kaleo's teaching weaves seamlessly together with Gilles' to bring you to a full exploration of the central themes of Fusion of the Five Elemental Forces.
With caring, you will give and receive a facial massage as you apply and sculpt plaster gauze facial molds with a partner. The maskmaking techniques used create realistic facial sculptures. Guided imagery leads you gently into the realms of the spirit world to connect with your inner guides (ancestor, totem animal, guardian angel, inner healer). Your guide then inspires you to paint, decorate, and transform your personal mask from the mold of your own face. Your mask can be a legacy, a life companion, a gauge of your personal growth, a guardian for your altar, and importantly, a touchstone to bring you forward in your daily life toward the experience of the Fusion Meditation.

The Tangled Garden of Wisdom and Grief
Instructor: Stephen Jenkinson
Exploring Your Personal Rapport with Death and Rebirth through Maskmaking
Instructors: Kaleo and Elise Ching
May 4 - 8 (week-long)
As mortal beings in a changing world we all experience loss, death, and rebirth daily. In this course you will enter into an integrative process that includes exercises in chi awareness, art, meditation, and guided imagery to enhance vital energy and access your inner artist, as you embark on the journey to create your own individual "Death-Rebirth" mask. Kaleo describes this process as a pilgrimage, explaining that, "Working with the energy of the hands invites ancient, archetypal material from the unconscious to emerge. Through enhanced awareness, hands discover their own language, which pours straight from the heart." The course invites you to look at the dying process, and its lessons for bringing clarity and enrichment to your own experience of living.
Prior to the course, to aid you in preparing for the journey, you will receive a manual written by Elise and Kaleo that will help you begin your soul search to bring forth your thoughts and intentions about your own life and death. Then during the course itself, through the powerful combination of bringing together your individual discoveries in the context of the shared creative adventure with the group, supported by the various exercises in Chi Kung and guided journeying, and inspired by the mask-making process itself, your revelations will find expression in the creation of your own personal Death-Rebirth mask. A materials fee of $20 for the mask making materials also includes Kaleo and Elise's manual, The Pilgrimage of Dying, which you will receive upon registration to help you prepare for the workshop. The manual invites you to write your Spiritual Autobiography and to collage a mandala of Sacred Awareness. It asks you to delve into yourself and your experience to know how you want to grow and deepen through contemplation of the nitty-gritty issues around death and through creating your Death-Rebirth Mask during our time together.
